Christmas Outing Forsdicks Tygervalley treated the children to a special outing on Christmas Day 2006. The children were accompanied by the staff of Forsdicks Tygervalley for a lovely lunch. The children were able to indulge in their favorite meal, burgers and ice-cream. They were also able to play to their hearts content in the play area provided at the restaurant. After the lunch, the children received big Christmas presents, which were provided by staff and friends of Forsdicks Tygervalley. The day was a huge success and all the children went home with big smiles. Thank you Forsdicks Tygervalley for making Christmas Day such a memorable one for the Melkbos Care Centre children. As part of the Forsdicks Tygervalley Christmas project, we also received a generous donation. Thank you to Marius and McCarthy Finance for so kindly donating R3000-00 to the Melkbos Care Centre. Cape Community Newspaper Cape Community Newspaper's promotions department visited the Melkbos Care Centre over the festive period last year (2006) and Father Christmas made all the children smile with gifts. Older children at the centre each received drawing packs with sketch pads, colouring-in pencils and fibre pens while the younger children got toys such as tea sets, dolls and racer cars. The goodwill also included a packet of sweets with each gift which Santa handed out individually to each child. Staff at the centre were given Tabletalk t-shirts, caps and pens. Thank you Tabletalk and Cape Community Newspaper for your generosity. 16 Days of Activism Campaign The 16 Days of Activism Campaign was a successful project which raised awareness of gender-based violence in the Rietvlei Bush informal settlement. Residents made a banner to display throughout the 16 day period to raise awarness. "Stop Kinder Mishandel" (Stop Child Abuse) was their message to residents within their community. Men, women and children participated in various activities and programmes which were both informative and participative. More that sixty resident wore the white ribbons to symbolize support for the campaign. A Party To Remember Friday the 13th of October 2006 turned out to be one of the most memorable days for the Melkbos Care Centre, with all thanks owing to OK Foods Melkbosstrand. A party was held by OK Foods at the Care Centre for all of our children to celebrate OK Foods Birthday. Nothing was spared on the day. The children were treated to hotdogs, party packs, sweets, ice-cream and cakes. The entertainment included a jumping castle, face painting and swimming. The red 'OK man' also paid the children a visit and handed out keyrings and rulers for the children to take home. We all had such a wonderful time. Thank you OK Foods for the generosity you have shown to the underprivileged in our community.
A Sponsored Holiday Outing Malibu Spur and Ster Kinekor, Bayside Centre, generously arranged a fun filled day for the children of the Melkbos Care Centre, on Monday 3rd July 2006. It was a wonderful day where 28 under-privileged children were treated to an entertaining screening of the new release 'Over The Hedge', and then followed by a delicious meal at Malibu Spur. The great games facilities at the Spur kept the kids entertained for hours. To top the eventful day off, big packets of sweets were kindly donated by 'On The Sweetside' to all of the children. The Melkbos Care Centre would like to thank Malibu Spur, Ster Kinekor and On The Sweetside for so kindly sponsoring the day for the children. A special thank you to Tamsin from Malibu Spur who co-ordinated and arrange the day. The care shown for the underprivileged in our community is greatly appreciated. |
